Columbia Care: Canine Osteoarthritis & CBD Study FAQs

Who is conducting the study?

Validcare on behalf of Columbia Care and their Canine CBD Treat product.

What kind of product will my dog be using?

Study participants will be provided with a Full-Spectrum CBD Dog Treat from Columbia Care. Each treat will contain 5mg of Hemp-derived Full-Spectrum CBD. Product is made in the USA.

What exactly are you looking for in the study?

Scientists will be looking to determine if canines with confirmed Osteoarthritis taking oral CBD over a minimum of thirty (30) days demonstrate observed improvement in clinical activity measures versus baseline.

What if I am unable or unwilling to complete the study?

You may voluntarily terminate participation at any time during the study.  The Principal Investigator may terminate your involvement as well after enrollment based on any reasonable criteria (including but not limited to the Investigator’s concern for your pet’s safety, owner truthfulness, etc).

What are the risks of my dog taking CBD?

The safety and risks of using CBD for dogs have not yet been researched. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has not approved CBD and has not issued a dosing chart. Therefore, we do not know what size dosage would be toxic. Any medication or supplement carries the risk of a reaction. It is always advisable, when giving your dog something new, to start out with small amounts and then closely monitor the effects. And always check with your veterinarian first.

How will I know that I have successfully completed the study and earned the $200 veterinary services credit?

You will have successfully completed the study if you visited the veterinarian at baseline and study-end (after 30 days), journaled your pet’s use of an oral CBD treat for 30 days, and provided self-reported perceived outcomes on a scheduled basis via a smartphone based app.
